Dan Salveta is one of our talented artisans that lives in Kalkaska, Michigan. Kalkaska is a little north and a little east of Traverse City in the northwest part of Michigan's lower peninsula. Dan has been working on some log stools and furniture, and is continuing to work on his blacksmithing. In his spare time, Dan likes to hunt, fish, and take care of his 20 acres which usually involves one of his old Ford or John Deere tractors. The 3 legged stools are made by my brother Dan in northern lower Michigan. He is quite involved in preserving the traditional, simple methods of producing things. Not only is Dan a talented woodworker, carpenter, and builder, but has recently taken up blacksmithing as a hobby as well. I hope that in the near future we'll have a few of Dan's hand-forged creations available on the site. For now, we'll work with the stool. The stools do not ship from stock, they are made to order so you'll need to allow 7-10 days then whatever the ground shipping time is from Michigan to your location. more
This small table comes with two stools as a set. The tabletop and stool seats are made from Western Red Cedar that was reclaimed from some telephone poles that were recently replaced. Dan had the pole sections cut into slabs by a local friend that runs a small saw mill operation. more
This is a very comfortable, 6' outdoor bench that has Dan's ironwood leg and back structure with the aged, reclaimed Western Red Cedar back board and seat. We have included a $75.00 shipping charge which will be adjusted after we know where you would like it shipped to. The shipping point of origin is Northwest Michigan so if you're close, it might be less, if you're in California it might be more. We will let you know. On large items, this is the fairest way we know to charge for shipping. more
Dan has been working on developing a sustainable energy project for his shop and work areas. He is investigating the potential installation of a residential size windmill on the back of the property, as well as a solar PV installation for the shop.
The solar installation will help to directly offset the energy needed for lighting, and potentially provide one or two circuits for some of the smaller tools used. In combination with the continued use of reclaimed wood for most of his projects, these changes will reduce cost and his overall carbon footprint.
